What happens at the office…

Kurt leads DMU’s day-to-day operations. He is responsible for developing, designing, planning, and continuously improving our strategic objectives (basically, he’s our guy for getting sh*t done).

 

Kurt brings a wealth of knowledge from a diverse background ranging from production to finance, technology, and corporate development. He overhauled asset organization and efficiency at companies like Fontana Distribution (a former division of Universal Music Group) and a number of independent record labels. Kurt has a proven track record of delivering results and automating key functions to free up time and “make it rain” (so to speak).

 

Since joining DMU, Kurt has worn every hat in the company before bringing most of our team together. He got us up and running online by developing our site blueprint, built our pricing model from scratch, and negotiated our distribution deal.

Randy Scott,Head of Investor Relations & Latin American Operations

Joined: January 2015

What happens at the office…

Randy is the primary point of contact for investors and leads DMU’s Latin American operations. His responsibilities include raising capital and negotiating contracts with our partners and collaborators.

 

Randy brings over 30 years of experience in the international business arena – ranging from small private brick and mortar financial institutions in the US to gaming establishments, internet based sports books, and call centers in the Caribbean. Randy has also been instrumental in brokering several large real estate deals and specializes in connecting the right people.

 

Since joining DMU, Randy has raised capital through a number of channels and has been working with prominent music professionals to ensure readiness to handle all distribution needs. He attributes a lot of his drive and success to his late father, who was his best friend and mentor.

Chris Whitcomb, CPA, Head of Finance

Joined: December 2014

What happens at the office…

Chris leads DMU’s finance and accounting. His responsibilities include directing our fiscal performance, executing on sound investments, and providing legal and market analysis.

 

Chris has been involved in many different businesses, including commodities – like oil, natural gas, gold, and diamonds. He was a licensed real estate broker and also worked in the secondary mortgage market as an investor. Chris is passionate about startups and wearing many hats (especially at the gym, because this dude can bench press any of us.

 

Since joining DMU, Chris has built our core investment structure, financial models, and has overseen our international business compliance. Chris’s large family plays an integral role in driving his results and love of what he does.

Shehan Rajaratnam, Head of Business Development & India

Joined: December 2014

What happens at the office…

Shehan leads DMU’s expansions and negotiations into new territories and business relationships. He is responsible for selling our product, securing contracts, and ensuring terms are beneficial to all.

 

Shehan came from an entrepreneurial family in Sri Lanka and has had that go-getter mindset since his early teen years. He served as a talent and brand manager for many high-profile Bollywood musicians, and in 2011 produced the first series of public concerts for Akon in India. Shehan helps leverage big talent and has vast experience with diverse musicians like Stevie Wonder, T-Pain, Wyclef, YMCMB, Soulja Boy, Lady Gaga, and Jerry Wonda, among many others.

 

Since joining DMU, Shehan has guaranteed future success in some of our biggest new gateway markets, like India. He has taken point on negotiating deals that have placed us in the hands of radio stations and label executives who can help ensure each artist has the necessary exposure to skyrocket.

Miguel Palmero, Head of Creative & Founder

Joined: September 2014

What happens at the office…

Miguel leads DMU’s website development and online presence. He is responsible for determining the best way to visually represent our vision and working with design partners to achieve this goal.

 

Miguel is a 2008 Grammy winning recording engineer, producer, and editor, who has also bagged a ton of other Grammy nominations. His extensive industry background includes design, mixing, tracking, composing, as well as video editing and graphic/web design for major movies and platinum artists. Miguel has found himself assuming a variety of studio positions for a wide range of different projects for companies like Disney, Dick Clark Productions, DIRECTV, Fox, Sony Pictures and ESPN.

 

Since joining DMU, Miguel has built our website front end and was our marketing material guru.

Alfredo “Chino” Moreno, Head of Latin Relations

What happens at the office…

Alfredo (aka “Chino”) is DMU’s Ambassador to Costa Rica and the rest of Latin America. He is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships to further our reach and increase our presence through newspapers, radio, TV, and key individuals in multiple territories.

 

Chino has rolled up his sleeves, risked big, lost, got back on the horse, and carried on many times in his career. He says to, “Never surrender. Start and restart anytime at any age.” In 1971 he built a successful Costa Rican radio station from scratch. Chino went on to manage and develop several successful bands and was instrumental in the creation of “Chiqui Chiqui”, a signature Costa Rican rhythm.

 

Since joining DMU, Chino has leveraged his vast network to bring key talent and organizations to our company, provided guidance on our Spanish website, and given us tons of industry insight into the Latin American marketplace.

Dave “Duke” Sholin, Head of Radio & Label Relations

What happens at the office…

Dave (aka “Duke”) leads DMU’s radio and label relations. His responsibilities include partnering with labels and radio stations to secure our market presence within their digital landscape.

 

Duke has been fortunate to work in all facets of the industry – from print to radio, and beyond. This has provided him with a unique perspective for what it takes to win the battles of generating listenership and earning the trust of programmers and label executives. Duke previously served as the National Music Director for RKO Radio, the VP of Promotion for Island Records and Capitol Records, and was named a charter member of the radio section of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

 

Since joining DMU, Duke has opened up negotiations with key strategic partners across the US and multiple genres. He was the last person to interview John Lennon on the day he died. The impact of this experience has remained a strong reminder for Duke regarding the power of artists, the importance of family, and being grateful for each day.

David ten Brink Rio, Operations Manager

What happens at the office…

David oversees much of DMU’s operational needs. His responsibilities include integrating the efforts put forth by different DMU departments in order to ensure that the various elements of each project are properly coordinated.

 

Having earned a Masters in Architecture and a BS in Engineering, David has embarked upon a number of business ventures. He brings a broad spectrum of experience including architecture design and construction management, real estate development and marketing, furniture and equipment sales, and even worked as a hotel manager. His PMI certification as a Project Manager, as well as his affable and easy-going nature, makes him a versatile asset capable of lending a hand wherever needed.

 

Since joining DMU, David has helped bridge the gap between vision and execution. Working alongside each of the team members, he brings his helpful attitude to each new challenge encountered.

What happens at the office…

A r i a s is DMU’s Corporate Counsel in Costa Rica. They provide DMU with a broad range of legal services from drafting our shareholder agreements, advising for fiscal and tax planning, and protecting our intellectual property to reviewing corporate governance, reviewing management and employee relationships, and suggesting banking options.

 

A r i a s is one of the largest law firms in Latin America and servers a number of domestic and international companies…including Google. They are unique in Central America, as they operate as a single firm rather than as an alliance of firms and currently have eight, fully-integrated offices in six countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.
